| Rohani welcomes Japan’s decision to expand Iran ties |

.jpg) TEHRAN – Iranian President Hassan Rohani has said that the Islamic Republic welcomes Japan’s decision to expand its ties with Iran.
Rohani made the remarks during a meeting with Masahiko Komura, the special envoy of Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, in Tehran on Sunday.
Masahiko Komura is a Japanese politician of the Liberal Democratic Party (LDP). He was foreign minister from 1998 to 1999 and again from 2007 to 2008.
Rohani said the new Iranian administration was determined to improve its relations with all friendly countries.
He also said that the dispute over Iran’s nuclear program should be resolved within the framework of international regulations.
In addition, he said that Iran and Japan, as the countries which had been victims of weapons of mass destruction, could be standard-bearers of the international campaign against these weapons.
Commenting on the developments occurring in the Middle East and North Africa, the president said that measures to deal with regional issues should be taken in accordance with international regulations, adding that any foreign intervention, particularly military action, in violation of international regulations would undermine the stability of the region.
Komura, for his part, said that the Japanese government was keen to improve its historical relationship with Iran.
In a separate meeting with the Japanese envoy on Saturday, Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif said that Tehran was ready to increase its economic and commercial cooperation with Tokyo.
Zarif highlighted the importance of the relationship between the two countries and said that Iran regarded Japan as one of its important partners.
Iran seeking constructive interaction with the world
Elsewhere in his remarks, the foreign minister said that Iran would move toward the resolution of the issue of international sanctions against the country employing “active diplomacy”.
He also said, “Our people will not give up their rights. The people proved that they are seeking to have constructive interaction with the world through electing Mr. Rohani (as president).”
Komura also expressed hope that the relations between the two countries would be enhanced during the tenure of the new Iranian administration and that Japanese companies would be able to increase their transactions with Iran.
