|Iran ready to win U.S. trust on its nuclear program: Zarif||
TEHRAN – Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif has said that Tehran is ready to take confidence-building measures to gain U.S. trust on the peaceful nature of its nuclear program.
“Iran and the United States suffer from a lack of reciprocal trust. We are ready to take measures to gain U.S. trust on the peaceful nature of Iran’s nuclear program and we call on the U.S. to show its honest resolve for peace and relinquish the language of threat,” Zarif said during an interview with Lebanese Almayadeen TV channel on Sunday, the Fars News Agency reported.
He also said that his British counterpart William Hague has requested a meeting with him which he has accepted.
“British Foreign Secretary William Hague has requested a meeting with me and I accepted it,” Zarif said.
On the Syrian conflict, he said provoking a U.S. war against Syria is a dangerous game. He added that initiating a war is neither to the benefit of regional countries nor the U.S.
He also called on all those “people who shed tears before TV channels” for the plight of Syrian people to support a political solution to the Syrian crisis without any precondition.
He also expressed hope that the risk of a military intervention in Syria would have been diminished.
Zarif further hailed Syria’s decision to accept Russia’s proposal on chemical weapons and said that the U.S. cannot achieve its desired results through use of force.
Elsewhere in his remarks, he said that the Islamic Republic condemns the use of chemical weapons by anyone and emphasized that a political solution is the only way out of the Syrian crisis.
“We want our region to be free from weapons of mass destruction and we welcome any measure in this regard,” he noted.
Zarif also warned that extremist groups and terrorists still possess chemical weapons which are hazardous for Syria and “everyone else”.
