|IRGC will fulfill its obligation if U.S. attacks Syria: general||
TEHRAN – The commander of Iran’s Islamic Revolution Guards Corps has said that the IRGC will “fulfill its obligation” if the United States attacks Syria.
“God willing, the United States will make a sensible decision and will not plunge itself into a military quagmire, but if it takes military action, it will be faced with numerous problems. And Sepah (IRGC) always fulfills its obligation,” Major General Mohammad Ali Jafari told reporters on the sidelines of a meeting of IRGC officials in Tehran on Monday.
In his speech during the meeting, the IRGC chief also said, “The enemies had plotted to make a military intervention in Syria, but their plot has so far failed and we hope that it will also be foiled in the future.”
“The last defeat that the enemies and the global arrogance (forces of imperialism) experienced at the hands of the resistance front was their defeat in Syria,” he stated.
Rohani says IRGC should be in the front line of the campaign against plots
In his speech during the meeting, President Hassan Rohani said that in the current critical situation in the country and in the Middle East region, the IRGC should be in the front line of the campaign against the enemy’s plots.
Rohani also said, “Sepah (the IRGC) is not the army of war in the region. It is the army of security and peace. If the military threats posed by the global arrogance in the region are eliminated, Sepah is not seeking to have military supremacy in the region.”
Elsewhere in his remarks, Rohani said that the IRGC can play an effective role in realizing the “economic epic” in order to help foil the enemy’s plot to exert economic pressure on the country.
He went on to say that the IRGC should undertake the projects that the private sector is not able to implement, adding that he has asked the IRGC to cooperate in the implementation of a number of national projects.
On the Syrian crisis, the president said that the situation in the region indicates the fact that the West is seeking to strengthen the position of Israel and undermine the resistance front.
“The Syrian issue is about the fate of a large region which not only will affect one country but may also affect the fate of the entire world,” he noted.
“We are making every effort so that no war starts in the region. Of course Syria is important to us… the Islamic Republic has never been and will not be indifferent to this decisive issue,” he said.
He also said that Iran disapproves of the use of chemical weapons and the killing of the people, adding that stability should return to Syria.
Iran will support any person that the Syrian people elect as their ruler after the return of calm to the Arab country, he said.
