|Zarif meets UN secretary general||
TEHRAN – Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif met with UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon in New York on Thursday, according to a UN press release.
The two officials discussed Iran’s growing cooperation with the international community on a host of issues, including the nuclear file, as well as the role Iran could play in promoting a political solution to the conflict in Syria.
The UN secretary general also welcomed the release on Wednesday by the Iranian government of a number of political activists and journalists who had been arrested after the 2009 presidential election.
He expressed hope that the Iranian government will continue to take steps to fulfill the promises made by President Hassan Rouhani during his recent election campaign.
