TEHRAN – Defense Minister Hossein Dehqan has said that Iran is ready to help reinforce the Iraqi army.
Brigadier General Dehqan made the remarks during a meeting with Iraqi Defense Minister Saadoun al-Dulaimi in Tehran on Tuesday.
He also said that he believed that increased defense cooperation between Tehran and Baghdad would help promote peace and stability of the region.
He went on to say that the security of the region could be maintained through cooperation between regional countries, adding that extra-regional countries that were seeking their own interests could not help promote the security of the region.
Elsewhere in his remarks, Dehqan said that an independent, united, powerful, and secure Iraq would positively affect the security of the region and guarantee the progress of the Arab country.
He added that all national and moderate groups in Iraq should remain united in order to promote the stability of the country.
The Iraqi official also said his travel to Tehran was meant to help enhance defense cooperation with Iran.
Dulaimi also said that regional countries should make every effort to reduce insecurity and instability in the region through increasing their cooperation.
