|Iran, Serbia seeking expansion of relations||
TEHRAN – Iranian Majlis Speaker Ali Larijani has said that Tehran is keen to expand its relations, especially its commercial ties, with Belgrade due to the fact that Serbia is a key player in the Balkan region.
Larijani made the remarks during a joint press conference with Serbian Parliament Speaker Nebojsa Stefanovic after their meeting in Belgrade on Monday.
Pointing to his discussions with Stefanovic about Iran’s nuclear issue, Larijani said he believes that the issue could be resolved in the atmosphere which has been created after the election of new Iranian President Hassan Rouhani.
“In this atmosphere, the issue can be resolved, and Iran and Europe can also utilize their potential to help resolve other complicated issues in the region and the world,” he stated.
The Serbian official also said that Iran-Serbia parliamentary friendship groups could help find ways to increase cooperation between the two countries.
“Today, we need to have close cooperation to deal with the smuggling of arms and drugs and human trafficking,” he said.
Larijani also held a meeting with Serbia’s Prime Minister Ivica Dacic on the same day, in which the two officials explored ways of expanding relations between Tehran and Belgrade.
