|EU calls for tangible results in nuclear talks with Iran||
TEHRAN – Michael Mann, the European Union spokesman, said on Monday that world powers are looking forward to meeting with the new Iranian negotiating team for talks on Tehran’s nuclear program in Geneva on October 15 and 16, according to the Kuwait News Agency.
“We hope that Iran will finally come forward with a constructive and concrete proposal,” the spokesman for European Union foreign policy chief Catherine Ashton said.
“We look forward to seeing their ideas and we are very ambitious to move forward very quickly. It is really time for tangible results in these negotiations,” he added.
Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif was quoted by Iranian media on Saturday as saying that “The previous P5+1 plan given to Iran belongs to history and they must enter talks with a new point of view.”
“Iranian people have completely lost their confidence in the West,” he said, adding that the upcoming nuclear talks could be a “good start” for reversing the view of the Iranian people.
Ashton is leading the talks on behalf of the six major powers (five permanent members of the United Nations Security Council plus Germany).
