|Normal ties between Iran and U.S. would benefit the region: Iraq PM||
TEHRAN – Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki has said that Baghdad advocates the normalization of relations between Iran and the United States because it would benefit the entire region.
In an interview with Al-Monitor published on October 7, Maliki said, “We are optimistic about the possibility of real progress in relations between these two countries this time, because of the positive atmosphere, ripe conditions, and seemingly serious intentions on the part of both countries. We announced that we are ready to help resolve this problem and help make things better. This will achieve our national interests, in addition to what it achieves for the interests of these two nations. It also supports security and stability in this incredibly tense region. We believe that normal relations between the United States and Iran will serve the interests of stability in the region and Iraq.”
