TEHRAN – Expediency Council Chairman Ayatollah Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani has called on the West to prove its goodwill in cooperating with Iran to resolve the dispute over the country’s nuclear program.
“The first steps were taken in the recent negotiations between Iran and the 5+1 countries… should be based on goodwill,” Rafsanjani said during a meeting with a European parliamentary delegation in Tehran on Monday.
He said the talks “can bring a better future to the world’s political atmosphere.”
Iran and the 5+1 countries (the five permanent members of the UN Security Council plus Germany) held talks over Tehran’s nuclear program in Geneva on October 15 and 16.
Hannes Swoboda, who is leading the European delegation, said that the European Parliament have taken measures to help lift the sanctions against the Iranian nation.
Swoboda is an Austrian Social Democratic politician who has been a member of the European Parliament since 1996.
