TEHRAN – Britain’s non-resident charge d'affaires to Iran, Ajay Sharma, is scheduled to arrive in Tehran today, an Iranian diplomat announced on Monday.
“In the first step after the appointment of the non-resident charges d'affaires of Iran and Britain, Britain’s non-resident charge d'affaires will make a trip to Tehran with a delegation on Tuesday, December 3, to visit the buildings of this country and hold talks with officials at the Foreign Ministry,” Mohammad Hassan Habibollahzadeh, Iran’s non-resident d'affaires to Britain, told IRNA.
Britain ordered the closure of Iran’s embassy in London after closing its own in Tehran following the storming of the compound by hundreds of angry students in November 2011.
They were protesting at Western sanctions against Tehran over its nuclear program.
However, after the victory in June elections of moderate cleric Hassan Rouhani as Iranian president with a pledge to engage the world constructively, London and Tehran have been working toward restoring ties.
