|OPCW director general hails Iran as an active member||
TEHRAN – Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi held talks with the director general of the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW), Ahmet Uzumcu, in The Hague on Monday.
The meeting was held on the sidelines of the Eighteenth Session of the Conference of the States Parties to the Chemical Weapons Convention, which opened in the Hague on Monday and closes on Friday.
Araqchi is representing Iran as the rotating chair of the Non-Aligned Movement at the conference and was scheduled to deliver a speech on behalf of the NAM member states.
The Islamic Republic assumed the rotating presidency of NAM for a three-year term on August 30, 2012.
During his meeting with Araqchi, Uzumcu hailed Iran as an “active” and “influential” member of the organization.
The Iranian official, for his part, asked the organization to address the problems of the victims of chemical attacks.
