TEHRAN – Dutch Foreign Minister Frans Timmermans has said that the Netherlands is keen to expand its relations with Iran.
Timmermans made the remarks during a meeting with visiting Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi on Tuesday.
Commenting on a recent deal reached between Iran and world powers in Geneva over the country’s nuclear program, he said that Amsterdam supported the nuclear deal, adding that his country would play a positive role to facilitate the implementation of the agreement.
Elsewhere in his remarks, the Dutch official underlined the need for the participation of Iran in the peace conference on Syria, which is scheduled to be held on January 22.
The Iranian deputy foreign minister also said that there was only a political solution to the Syrian issue, adding that the Islamic Republic could play a constructive role to help resolve the issue.
