|Iranian parliament speaker, Sultan Qaboos of Oman discuss ties||
TEHRAN – Iranian Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani held a meeting with Sultan Qaboos Bin Said of Oman at Bait Al Barakah near Muscat on Thursday, Oman News Agency reported.
During the meeting, the good relations between the two friendly countries and various aspects of the existing bilateral cooperation between the two sides were reviewed in a number of fields.
The meeting was attended by Khalid bin Hilal al-Ma’awali, chairman of Oman’s Majlis A’Shura, Ali Akbar Sibeveih, ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Iran to the sultanate, and the delegation accompanying Larijani.
On the same day, the Iranian parliament speaker and his Omani counterpart held a meeting, during which they discussed relations between the sultanate and Iran and a number of issues and topics of common concern, in addition to means of enhancing parliamentary cooperation between the two countries.
During the meeting, Ma’awali gave briefing on the Majlis A’Shura and its role in tackling issues of concern to the country and citizens.
He also highlighted strong and historic relations binding the sultanate and the Islamic Republic in various spheres, saying that such a relationship has its roots in the wise leadership of Sultan Qaboos and Iranian officials, who maintained and supported these relations.
He also affirmed the keenness of the Majlis A’Shura on enhancing and promoting these relations through activating the role of the Parliamentary Friendship Group to serve the interests of the two countries and their brotherly peoples.
Larijani, for his part, commended the agreement reached by Iran and world powers over the country’s nuclear program, wishing that this agreement would contribute to the security, stability, and welfare of the nations of the region.
He also emphasized the importance of enhancing bilateral relations in parliamentary, political, economic, and business sectors and developing them in a manner that meets the common interests of both nations.
Larijani also pointed out that the last visit of Sultan Qaboos to Iran, which had a great effect on developing bilateral relations between the sultanate and Iran, was a historic visit for Iran.
In addition, he hailed the economic relations between the two sides and the importance of working to develop them and signing joint ventures. He also welcomed Omani investors in Iran in different economic and tourism sectors, adding that the respective agencies in Iran are seeking to facilitate procedures for investors.
Larijani also invited his Omani counterpart to take part in the 9th session of the Federation of Member Councils in the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) that will be hosted by Tehran in February 2013.
The Iranian parliament speaker was received by Omani Foreign Minister Yousef bin Alawi bin Abdullah on Wednesday.
The meeting discussed bilateral relations, particularly cooperation in political, economic, and cultural areas.
