|No limit to expansion of ties with Iraq, Leader tells Iraqi PM||
TEHRAN – Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei held a meeting with Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki in Tehran on Thursday.
During the meeting, Ayatollah Khamenei emphasized the necessity of the expansion of ties between the two neighboring countries, saying, “There is great potential for further cooperation in various areas, and there is no obstacle in the way of developing ties and enhancing regional cooperation.”
“Iran’s scientific growth in recent years has been remarkable and the transfer of scientific knowhow to Iraq can” help enhance bilateral cooperation, he added.
The Leader also hailed the performance of the Iraqi government but said more needs to be done in the Arab country.
Maliki, for his part, expressed hope that his trip to Iran would help increase the level of cooperation between Tehran and Baghdad.
The Iraqi prime minister has also held separate meetings with President Hassan Rouhani, Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif, and Expediency Council Chairman Ayatollah Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani, and a number of other Iranian officials.
