TEHRAN – The civil nuclear agreement between the P5+1 countries and Iran would be beneficial for the entire region, Iranian parliament speaker Ali Larijani said at a press conference in Muscat on Thursday, Times of Oman reported.
Larijani said that Iran had anticipated adverse Israeli reaction to the nuclear deal. "Israel is struggling for its own political and economic survival. Some of its reactions to the deal were ludicrous. We do not feel that there is any need to respond to it. We are not concerned about it."
Larijani was on a three-day visit to Oman at the invitation of Oman’s Majlis Al Shura Chairman Sheikh Khalid bin Hilal Al Ma'awali. He also held talks with Sultan Qaboos bin Said and officials of the sultanate on parliamentary and economic issues as well as regional cooperation.
"I held detailed discussions with His Majesty the Sultan on various issues concerning the entire region. I am proud of the strong Iranian and Omani ties, which are brotherly and progressive. I have come here to talk about further expansion and strengthening of the relationship between the two countries," Larijani told reporters.
He added, "His Majesty's balanced approach is what attracted us towards his leadership. We laud his vision and strongly believe that he will continue to play a constructive role in the region."
On relations with Saudi Arabia in the post-nuclear deal era, Larijani said that Saudi Arabia is one of the very important countries of the region and Iran has long-standing ties with the Arab country. While there may be some differences of opinion on some issues, Larijani said the two countries agree on many issues.
In reply to a question about concerns in the region resulting from the nuclear deal, Larijani said, "Iran would never leave Muslim and Arab countries alone. Whenever Israel launched attacks on Lebanon, Iran stood with the people of Lebanon. Similarly, when Israel launched aggression on Gaza, Iran supported Gaza."
