|Iran’s new envoy visits London||
TEHRAN – Iran’s new envoy to Britain Mohammad Hassan Habibollahzadeh left Tehran for London on Wednesday.
His visit follows a trip to Tehran last week by his British counterpart Ajay Sharma.
Sharma’s visit was the first time a British diplomat visited Iran since the two countries almost severed their diplomatic ties in 2011.
“He will meet UK officials at the Foreign Office on Friday 13, including the UK non-resident charge d’affaires Ajay Sharma,” a Foreign Office spokeswoman told AFP.
Iran named Habibollahzadeh as the country’s non-resident charge d’affaires to London - a diplomatic post that is one level below ambassador - last month.
Britain ordered the closure of Iran’s embassy in London after closing its own in Tehran following the storming of the compound by hundreds of angry students in November 2011. The students were protesting at Western sanctions against Tehran over its nuclear program.
