|Iran’s support for Syria is ‘logical’: Russian MP||
TEHRAN – Iran’s support for the Syrian government is logical given the ongoing interference of other countries in the two-year conflict in the country, according to the chairman of the Russian parliament foreign affairs committee.
"It’s only natural that after two years of foreign involvement in Syrian affairs some other powers have stepped in to prevent the overthrow of the current Syrian government," Alexei Pushkov said at a news conference in Moscow on Monday, the Voice of Russia reported.
"I believe we can't condemn one country, which joins the game much later, for trying to help a different country in a situation of actual external intervention financed by Saudi Arabia and Qatar," the parliamentarian said.
The Russian MP also said Iran should take part in the meeting on Syria in Geneva because it "will be incomplete" without Iran.
The Russian lawmaker said foreign intervention in what is essentially a “sovereignty’s private business” was condemnable, but added that Iran’s help to Damascus stemmed from the conflict itself.
