|Germany keen to increase cooperation with Iran||
TEHRAN – A senior member of the German Bundestag has highlighted Iran’s role in the region, saying that Berlin is keen to increase cooperation with the Islamic Republic on regional issues.
Andreas Schockenhoff made the remarks during a meeting with Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister for European and American Affairs Majid Takht-Ravanchi in Tehran on Tuesday.
The German parliamentarian also said that the current stage of confidence-building process between Iran and the West is highly important.
It is necessary for the two sides to seize the existing opportunity and look to the future, he said.
On the Syrian crisis, he said that there is only a political solution to the issue, adding that the Islamic Republic should be involved in Syrian peace talks.
For his part, the Iranian Foreign Ministry official pointed to an interim nuclear deal between Tehran and major powers reached in Geneva on November 24, 2013 and said that all sides should try to prevent efforts being made by those who want to scuttle the process of talks from succeeding.
Elsewhere in his remarks, Takht-Ravanchi underscored the need for increased cooperation between all the world’s countries to deal with the issue of extremism which poses a serious threat to the region and the international community.
