The despotic regimes forced people into the silence of the graveyard, but now the extremists have created killing fields, Rafsanjani said during a meeting with a number of members of the Association for Defending Press Freedom.
The former Iranian president said extremists have been committing crimes in Islamic countries over the course of history, since the advent of Islam.
“Blind prejudice repeats crimes against humanity over the course of history and regards the killing of those who have opposing views as halal (religiously permitted),” he noted.
Elsewhere in his remarks, he said that in the modern world, nothing can keep people in ignorance and efforts to keep people in the dark are “futile”.
