TEHRAN – In a statement issued in New York on Monday, members of the Non-Aligned Movement condemned the recent assassination of an Iranian diplomat in Yemen.

The statement said, “The Coordinating Bureau of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) strongly condemns the terrorist attack against Mr. Abolghasem Asadi, the diplomat of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Sana'a, the Republic of Yemen, which resulted in his death.

The NAM extends its condolences and sympathy to the family of the victim of this heinous terrorist act, and to the peoples and governments of Yemen and Iran and underlines the need to bring the perpetrators of the terrorist attack to justice. In this context, the NAM recalls and appreciates the statements, issued by the IR of Iran and the Republic of Yemen in condemnation of this terrorist attack, in which they confirmed that they would work together to bring the perpetrators to justice.

The NAM reaffirms that terrorism in all its forms and manifestations constitutes one of the most serious threats to international peace and security, and that any acts of terrorism are criminal and unjustifiable, regardless of their motivation, wherever, whenever, and by whomsoever committed.

The NAM reaffirms the need to combat by all means, in accordance with the Charter of the United Nations and all obligations under international law, in particular international human rights, refugee and humanitarian law, threats to international peace and security caused by terrorist acts.

The NAM recalls the fundamental principle of the inviolability of diplomatic and consular premises, and the obligations on host governments, including under the 1961 Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations and the 1963 Vienna Convention on Consular Relations.”
