|Iran, France to work on Syrian crisis: Velayati||
TEHRAN – Iran and France will launch a fresh effort to settle the Syrian crisis, a veteran Iranian politician said on Saturday.
Ali Akbar Velayati, the director of the Strategic Research Center at the Expediency Council, made the remarks during a press conference with former French foreign minister Hervé de Charette in Tehran.
“We have come to the understanding that if Iran and France, given the common interest to the future of the Syrian people, cooperate with each other, a solution can be found,” said Velayati, who is also a senior advisor to the Supreme Leader.
He also expressed hope that the fresh round of cooperation between Tehran and Paris would help settle the ongoing conflict in Syria as the two countries believe that terrorists and extremist groups pose a threat to the region.
De Charette, who has travelled to Iran upon the invitation of Velayati, is also scheduled to meet Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif on Sunday.
