|Kashmir Solidarity Day 2014 commemorated at Pakistani Embassy in Tehran||
TEHRAN - The Pakistani ambassador to Iran has said that Islamabad is committed to a just resolution of the Kashmir dispute in accordance with United Nations Security Council resolutions and the aspirations of the Kashmiri people.
Ambassador Noor Muhammad Jadmani made the remarks during a ceremony held at the Pakistani Embassy in Tehran on Wednesday on the occasion of Kashmir Solidarity Day.
A cross-section of Iranian scholars, academicians, intellectuals, and media representatives and members of the Pakistani community in Tehran attended the function.
The Kashmir Solidarity Day messages of Pakistani President Mamnoon Hussain and Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif were read out after a recitation of the Holy Quran.
In his speech, the Pakistani ambassador said, “Kashmir Solidarity Day is an occasion to pay tribute to the countless sacrifices of valiant Kashmiris.”
He added, “On this day, the Pakistani nation reiterates its unwavering political, moral, and diplomatic support for the just struggle of our Kashmiri brothers.”
Jadmani also said, “This struggle is not only for the rights of the Kashmiri people, but it is related to human dignity and freedom.”
At the event, Iranian political scientist Davoud Hermidas Bavand, Tehran Times journalist Hamid Golpira, and Hojjatoleslam Salman Naqavi made speeches in which they highlighted the plight of the Kashmiri people and the need to reach a resolution of the Kashmir issue in accordance with the wishes of the Kashmiri people.
In addition, Nasser Yamin Mardokhi, Farnaz Zalzadeh, and Mr. Nikbakht recited poems in support of the Kashmiri struggle.
In his message, President Mamnoon Hussain said that Pakistan remains firmly committed to its principled stance on Jammu and Kashmir.
“The observance of Kashmir Solidarity Day on 5th February every year is a reaffirmation of our moral, political, and diplomatic support towards our Kashmiri brethren in their just struggle for fundamental rights, including the right to self-determination as enshrined in the United Nations Charter and the relevant UN resolutions,” Hussain stated.
In his message, Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif said that a just and peaceful resolution of the Jammu and Kashmir dispute in accordance with the aspirations of the Kashmiri people is essential for lasting peace in South Asia.
“This is an occasion to reiterate our firm support to the people of Jammu and Kashmir in their legitimate struggle for their inalienable right to self-determination,” Sharif stated.
“On this day we reaffirm our resolve to stand by our brothers and sisters in their valiant struggle for their just cause. The peaceful people of Jammu and Kashmir continue to suffer,” he added.
In a separate message published by the Associated Press of Pakistan, Sharif said that Pakistan is committed to the resolution of all outstanding disputes with India including Jammu and Kashmir, through dialogue. “We invite India to engage in a comprehensive sustained and result-oriented dialogue process.”
