|China calls for comprehensive solution to Iran’s nuclear issue||
TEHRAN – Chinese State Councilor Yang Jiechi has called for measures to achieve a comprehensive and long-term settlement of the dispute over Iran’s nuclear program.
During a meeting with U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry in Beijing on Friday, Yang hailed the interim nuclear deal between Iran and the six world powers which took effect last month, calling it an important progress in settling decades of standoff, Xinhua reported.
Iran and the 5+1 group (the five permanent members of the UN Security Council plus Germany) made an agreement over Tehran’s nuclear program, according to which Iran agreed not to expand its nuclear program and to suspend its 20 percent uranium enrichment in return for a limited easing of the sanctions imposed on the country.
Also, Kerry said the United States appreciates China’s constructive role in issues regarding Syria and Iran, and hopes to maintain communication and cooperation.
