TEHRAN – Qatar’s Foreign Minister, Khalid Bin Mohammed Al Attiyah, has said that Iran’s positive approach toward the Persian Gulf Arab states has provided numerous opportunities.
In his meeting with Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian in Doha on Monday, the Qatari foreign minister also said,
“We always support Iran’s peaceful nuclear activities.”
Amir-Abdollahian, the deputy foreign minister for Arab and African affairs, also held a meeting with Qatari Deputy Minister Mohamed bin Abdullah al-Rumaihi on Sunday in which they discussed bilateral issues and regional developments in the Middle East.
Abdollahian pointed to the critical situation in the region and said that expansion of relations with neighboring countries, specifically Persian Gulf littoral states, is Iran’s principal policy.
Iran is ready to expand political and economic relations with Qatar, he said, emphasizing that Iran is determined to expand cooperation with regional countries.
Mohamed bin Abdullah al-Rumaihi welcomed the new round of consultations between Iran and Qatar and said Qatar supports the recent nuclear agreement between Iran and the 5+1 group (the five permanent members of the UN Security Council plus Germany).
In this meeting both sides discussed the situation in Palestine, Egypt, Yemen and Bahrain and said that “dialogue” and “political solution” are the best ways out of the critical situation gripping the region.
