|Foreign intervention to exacerbate situation in Ukraine: Iran||
TEHRAN – Iranian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Marzieh Afkham voiced concern on Thursday over the crisis in Ukraine and said that foreign meddling could deepen the differences and worsen the crisis in the country.
Afkham deplored the death of people and security forces during the clashes in Ukraine.
She expressed hope that the national reconciliation between the government and the opposition would end the crisis in the former Soviet republic.
Anti-government protests erupted in Ukraine since November, after Ukrainian President Yanukovych refrained from making a trade deal with the European Union in favor of closer ties with Russia.
Gun battles between police and anti-government protesters have brought the death toll to 75 in the worst violence in the country since Soviet times.
The Yanukovych government announced a tentative resolution on Friday which has yet to be signed. The agreement was announced after all-night talks with opposition leaders, Russian representatives and the foreign ministers of Germany, Poland and France.
