|Tehran-Riyadh proximity will positively affect whole region: Rouhani||
TEHRAN – A close cooperation between Iran and Saudi Arabia can effectively promote stability and security in the entire Middle East region, Iranian President Hassan Rouhani said on Monday.
Rouhani made the remarks as he received the credentials of the new Saudi Arabian Ambassador Abdur-Rahman bin Gharman al-Shahri.
The Islamic Republic of Iran is determined to maintain and expand brotherly relations with Islamic countries, specially neighboring countries, and Saudi Arabia is important to Iran in this endeavor, he stated.
Referring to the important status of Iran and Saudi Arabia in the region and the Islamic world, Rouhani said Tehran and Riyadh have great potential to deepen their relations.
Rouhani went on to say that the Islamic Republic seeks an exchange of views with Riyadh officials on all international and regional issues.
The Iranian president said extremism and terrorism have negatively affected the whole region, adding that an expansion of relations can help improve the situation in the region.
For his part, the new Saudi Arabian ambassador said the approaches adopted by the new Iranian government have raised new prospects for relations between the two countries.
The strong will of the two countries’ officials for expansion of relations will strengthen the brotherly ties between the two countries, the ambassador said.
