|Iran, Russia to discuss construction of new nuclear plant||
TEHRAN – The spokesman for the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI) announced on Monday that that the Russian state-owned nuclear energy corporation deputy director Nikolai Spassky arrives in Tehran on Tuesday for talks with AEOI officials on construction of a new nuclear power plant in Iran.
Behrouz Kamalvandi said that Iran plans to build four new nuclear power plants in Bushehr. However, he added, it depends how the talks and cooperation will progress.
Kamalvandi said in a meeting between AEOI deputy director Mohammad Ahmadian and Rosatom director general Sergy Kirienko in Moscow on March 6 an expansion of peaceful nuclear activities between the two countries was highlighted.
The spokesman said the completion and construction of the first unit of the Bushehr nuclear power plant is an example of cooperation between Tehran and Moscow in nuclear activities.
The two countries also exchange knowledge in producing nuclear medicine isotopes, he added.
He also said the officials in Tehran and Moscow has insisted on the need to build the second unit of the Bushehr nuclear power plant.
The issue was also discussed in a meeting between Iranian ambassador to Russia Mehdi Sanaei and the Rosatom deputy director in Moscow on February 14.
