In a meeting with hundreds of members of governmental institutions, managers of economic enterprises, and directors of scientific organizations in Tehran on Tuesday, the Leader said the economy of resistance will also give a great boost to domestic production and job creation.
On February 19, Ayatollah Khamenei outlined the general policies of the economy of resistance.
According to the plan, the government must take action to expand the production and exportation of knowledge-based products, increase domestic production of strategic goods, and develop markets in neighboring countries.
It also encourages greater privatization and increased exports of electricity, gas, petrochemicals, and oil byproducts in order to diversify the economy and wean it from reliance on exports of crude oil and other raw materials.
“The policies of the economy of resistance can help the national economy weather difficult times through reliance on domestic human resources and assets,” Ayatollah Khamenei noted.
Reducing dependence on oil revenues and securing the provision of strategic foodstuffs and medicines are some of the objectives of the economy of resistance, the Leader added.
The economy of resistance can lead the Iranian nation to victory in “the imposed economic war” with the West, he stated.
Ayatollah Khamenei also urged national officials to avoid any extravagance and to observe appropriate patterns of consumption in their private lifestyles and in the workplace.
In a meeting with Iranian laborers in April 2013, the Leader described the constant change of economic policies, reliance on inexpert opinions, and trust in the imposed economic theories of the West and the East as harmful.
“Economic policies should be based on the economy of resistance,” the Leader stated. “The economy of resistance is a kind of economy which enjoys a firm and solid infrastructure and which does not waver in the face of various changes in the world.”
Iranian President Hassan Rouhani recently said the various institutions affiliated with the administration were now bound to implement the “resistance economy” plan, which was outlined by the Supreme Leader to counter the sanctions imposed by the West.
Rouhani added that the administration would work with the other branches of government to achieve the objectives of the plan.
