TEHRAN – Tajik Foreign Minister Sirodjidin Aslov congratulates Iran for its diplomatic success in striking an initial nuclear agreement with major powers, reiterating Dushanbe’s position that Iran has right to peaceful nuclear activities.
He made the remarks during a meeting with his Iranian counterpart Mohammad Javad Zarif in Tehran on Sunday.
Iran and the 5+1 group (the five permanent members of the UN Security Council plus Germany) clinched an interim deal in Geneva on November 24, 2013, according to which Iran agreed not to expand its nuclear program for six months in exchange for limited sanctions relief.
The interim deal is designed to hammer out a comprehensive nuclear deal. In line with such a purpose the sides will start a new round of talks in Vienna on Tuesday.
During the meeting the two foreign minister also exchanged views on bilateral relations.
Zarif, for his part, called for expansion of political, cultural and economic ties between the two Persian-speaking countries.
There is no limit to expand relations, Zarif added.
He also voiced Iran’s readiness to cooperate with Tajikistan in campaign against terrorism and extremism.
Aslov said that the exchange of top delegations between Iran and Tajikistan indicates that the two countries are determined to strengthen ties.
The officials also discussed developments in Central Asia, particularly developments in Afghanistan.
