|European Parliament resolution is ‘disgraceful and thoughtless’: Larijani||
TEHRAN – The resolution issued by the European Parliament against Iran and the claims made in it are ‘disgraceful’, Iranian Majlis Speaker Ali Larijani said in a parliamentary session on Saturday.
Part of the resolution adopted on Thursday said that the presidential election in Iran in July 2013 did not conform to European standards.
Larijani said such claims reveal a “misunderstanding” by European officials about the realities on the ground.
Perhaps they are “deceived” by somebody, he added.
He went on to say that taking such actions are not strange because certain powers are seeking to cause “chaos” in the international scene.
Larijani said the other issues mentioned in the resolution about human rights situation in Iran were ‘thoughtless’.
These countries will realize that they have taken a wrong path toward Iran, he stated.
In its resolution on Thursday, the European Parliament accused Iran of “continued, systemic violation of fundamental rights”.
The resolution was followed by Iranian officials’ reactions.
