Brigadier General Hossein Dehqan made the remarks on the sidelines of a ceremony held in Tehran on Tuesday to commemorate the International Day for Mine Awareness and Assistance in Mine Action.

On December 8, 2005, the United Nations General Assembly declared that April 4 of each year shall be observed as the International Day for Mine Awareness and Assistance in Mine Action.

Dehqan also said that most of the areas affected by mines and explosives remaining from the 1980-1988 Iran-Iraq war have been cleared.

In addition, he expressed regret over the fact that the international community has failed to fulfill its obligation to help Iran in the process of clearing mine-affected areas.
