TEHRAN – Judiciary chief Ayatollah Sadeq Larijani said on Sunday that Iranian soldiers die in the fight against drug traffickers in order to prevent the shipment of drugs to Europe.
Instead of being thankful to Iran for its sacrifices in the fight against drug traffickers they say why capital punishment is being carried out in Iran, he said.
“They write prescription for us not to do execution, and also say that homosexuality should be free. I told senior judicial officials that our children are martyred in borders to deter transfer of drugs to Europe (but) instead of being thankful they say why we do executions.”
He also hit out at the European Union, the British Foreign Office, and the U.S. which he said have started a commotion against Iran for its human rights record, saying Iran acts based on Sharia law.
“They say why there is execution in Iran which in response we say that this is part of qesas (eye-for-eye injury) which is our right,” the top judge noted.
