|Iran’s principled position on Mideast region remains unchanged: diplomat||
TEHRAN – The Iranian ambassador to Lebanon has reiterated that Tehran’s principled position on maintaining security and stability in the region remains unchanged.
Ghazanfar Roknabadi made the remarks during a meeting with Lebanese Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri on Saturday.
Roknabadi said the enemies are seeking to undermine the regional countries’ security.
The two also discussed developments in the region and the relations between Iran and Lebanon.
Berri, for his part, said that the enemies fuel insecurity in the region to distract attention from the Palestinian issue and the regional countries’ enmity toward the Zionist regime of Israel.
Commenting on Iran’s nuclear talks with the 5+1 group (the five permanent members of the UN Security Council plus Germany), the veteran Lebanese politician said Western countries have recognized Iran’s right to nuclear energy for peaceful uses.
Iran and the 5+1 group are leading negotiations to build on an interim deal struck in November, under which Tehran agreed not to expand its nuclear program for six months in exchange for limited sanctions relief. The agreement came into force on January 20. Iran and the major powers have set a July 20 deadline to clinch a long-term deal that would lead to a gradual lifting of all nuclear-related sanctions.
