“The Islamic Republic of Iran has always taken note of the role and status of Saudi Arabia among (regional) countries. Increasing contacts and meetings with Saudi Arabian officials is certainly on the agenda,” Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Marzieh Afkham said on Tuesday during a regular press briefing.

“Iran intends to utilize all the potential to upgrade the relations… and this cooperation will (help) shape regional cooperation and promote peace and stability in the region,” she said.

She went on to say that the Islamic Republic attaches special importance to relations with its neighbors, adding that regional countries are also keen to strengthen ties with Iran.

“Considering the Islamic Republic of Iran’s will and the other sides’ keenness and efforts, we can be optimistic about the future of relations,” she said.

“All Iranian governments… have been seriously determined to expand ties with regional countries. And in view of the fact that (the current administration) has adopted an approach of constructive interaction with all countries, this policy has been highlighted more than ever,” she said.
