“The nuclear issue is one of the most complicated foreign policy projects in the history of Iran, and future generations will definitely air judgment about it,” Qalibaf told cleric war veterans at a meeting in Tehran.

The nuclear issue has many legal complexities; various countries, including neighbors and majors powers, are all playing a role in it; and this is a “battlefield which the nation and the Islamic system are facing,” he noted.

He added that Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei is closely monitoring the nuclear negotiations, and, in fact, he is “leading this project,” and he demands that the “the red lines that should be observed.”

“The Supreme Leader will not exchange the dignity of the people and system with any person or any government” said Qalibaf, who finished second in the 2013 presidential election.

“We see that the Supreme Leader unequivocally says that (the members of) the negotiating team are the children of the revolution… so if we hear this… we should know that we should not weaken the negotiating team,” he stated.

He also said, “The sanctions are undoubtedly unjust, and we should try to break these sanctions and prove” to the world that Iran “is not seeking war.”

Elsewhere in his remarks, he alluded to the need to diversify the economy, saying that running the country with oil revenues is nothing to be proud of.
