|Singapore Parliament speaker to visit Iran||
TEHRAN – The Iranian embassy in Singapore announced on Wednesday that Singapore’s Parliament Speaker Halimah Yacob is scheduled to make a five- day trip to Iran in mid-June.
She will visit Iran at the invitation of Iranian Majlis Speaker Ali Larijani. The trip is aimed at discussing expansion of parliamentary cooperation.
During the trip, Yacob is planned to meet with top Iranian officials including Larijani and members of Iran-Singapore parliamentary friendship group.
It is the first time that a Singaporean parliamentary speaker will pay a visit to Tehran.
Singaporean Foreign Minister K. Shanmugam made a trip to Iran in 2013 during which he met with Iranian officials and discussed expansion of ties.
Shanmugam has described Yacob’s imminent trip as a significant step in expanding relations.
