|Rouhani, Xi discuss expansion of ties in Shanghai||
TEHRAN – Iranian President Hassan Rouhani and Chinese President Xi Jinping held a meeting in Shanghai on Thursday, during which they discussed ways to expand political, cultural, and economic ties.
Rouhani emphasized the need to develop strategic and comprehensive relations, saying the two countries play an important role in maintaining peace and stability in Asia.
He also stated that Iran is ready to increase its cooperation with China.
He went on to say that Iran welcomes and supports any kind of Chinese investment.
Rouhani added that Iran and China can have constructive cooperation in the campaigns against extremism, terrorism, and drug smuggling.
Xi said that there is potential for the expansion of cooperation between the two countries in various areas, and China regards Iran as its strategic partner.
Iran has adopted a positive approach and has increased the opportunities for foreign investment in the country, he said, adding that China is ready to make investments in Iran.
He added that China and Iran should expand their cooperation in the scientific and petrochemical spheres, and the two countries’ joint commission should become more active in the efforts to expand bilateral ties.
Xi also praised Iran’s active participation in the CICA conference.
Rouhani, leading a high-raking Iranian delegation, arrived in Shanghai on Tuesday to attend the Conference on Interaction and Confidence Building Measures in Asia (CICA).
