Hossein Amirabdollahian, a top Iranian diplomat expert in Arab affairs, has written an article saying the Kuwaiti emir’s visit will provide a good opportunity to help establish a secure and stable region and deepen ties between regional states.
Following is an excerpt of the article published on IRNA website on Friday:
Undoubtedly, the Islamic Republic of Iran attaches great importance to the expansion of cooperation with the Persian Gulf Arab states and Kuwait has a specific status in this respect.
During the Kuwaiti emir’s visit to Iran, high level consultations will be made on bilateral, regional, and international issues and ways to resolve the security challenges in the region such as extremism and sectarianism will be discussed.
The Iranian government prioritizes expanding ties with neighbors, boosting political cooperation. Establishing mutual trust is also on the agenda.
In line with this policy, Iranian President Hassan Rouhani made a trip to Oman in May and a trip to Iraq is on his agenda.
Through the visits paid by the foreign ministers of the above mentioned countries, the political, cultural, social, economic and security cooperation have been expanded.
The steps taken by Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif in organizing Iran-Kuwait High Joint Committee, setting a date to hold Tehran-Doha High Joint Committee and organizing consular and commercial committees with the littoral Persian Gulf states are among measures taken for expanding ties.
Holding joint military exercises with Oman and establishing security committee with Qatar are examples of defense cooperation between Iran and the regional countries.
Iran and the Persian Gulf Arab states have expanded economic cooperation through an increase in economic interactions.
Steps have also been taken to expand relations with Saudi Arabia which plays an important part in maintaining peace and security in the region.
