The people have taken the “irreversible path of moderation”, Rouhani told a gathering held to mark the birthday of Imam Mahdi (AS) and the first anniversary of the 2013 presidential election.
The president stated that moderation is based on “collective wisdom”.
According to collective wisdom, he said, sanctions against Iran should be lifted and the country should seek regional and international peace.
The collective wisdom “tells us that the country belongs to the people,” he added.
He also said that no faction or group has the right to “confiscate” the revolution, the Sacred Defense (Iran’s resistance against the invading Iraqi army in the 1980s) and the leadership.
Rouhani said his administration has been elected by the people and the majority’s decision should be respected.
Elsewhere in his remarks, he said that the administration is duty bound to fulfill its promises related to domestic, foreign policy and economic issues.
Great steps have been taken, but there is a long way to reach all the goals, he added.
Rouhani stated that the administration is seeking to meets the people’s demands and it is the people’s demands that rule the administration and not the other way around.
He stated that the election held last year, bears the messages of unity and brotherhood.
Commenting on the violence and terrorism in the region, he said that the Iranian people will not tolerate such things and will fight against them.
The president was indirectly referring to the savage acts by the terrorist ISIL group in Iraq which is coming as a wake-up call to the world.
