|Iraq has resorted to talks with Iran on returning fighter jets: Washington Post||
TEHRAN – Despite the fact that both Iran and Iraq have dismissed rumors that Iran had returned fighter jets to Iraq, the Washington Post has claimed that the Baghdad government has resorted to negotiations with Iran on returning fighter jets.
The Iranian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman on Wednesday dismissed rumors that Iran had sent 130 fighter jets to Iraq. Marzieh Afkham told a press briefing that the matter has also been denied by Iraqi officials.
In a report published on Friday by the Washington Post, it is claimed that Iraq wants to negotiate the return of more than 100 fighter jets which were flown to Iran by fleeing Iraqi pilots during the 1991 Persian Gulf War.
The daily also said that Iran has been “receptive” to the demands and is working on refurbishing an unspecified number of jets.
