|Current situation in the region is harming everyone: Rafsanjani||
TEHRAN – The chairman of Iran’s Expediency Council has said that the current critical situation in the region is undermining the interests of all the people in the region.
“If regional governments with any views assess the current situation, they will understand that this situation is harming everyone,” Ayatollah Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani said during a meeting with Turkish Ambassador to Tehran Umit Yardim on Sunday.
He said that extremist groups in Iraq and Syria are undermining the security of the region and have become a disgrace to true Muslims due to their extremist actions.
“A lack of coordination between regional governments has created the best opportunity for extremist groups, which were in Syria yesterday, are in Iraq today, and will be in other Muslim countries tomorrow,” he said.
He also said that the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant terrorist group, which is now operating in Iraq, will undermine the security of the countries that are now supporting it in the future.
He went on to say that regional governments should put aside their short-term interests and unite against the issue of terrorism which is threatening the security of all the countries in the region.
The Turkish ambassador, for his part, said that the failure to find political solutions to the issues facing the region will complicate matters further.
He also said that the current situation in Iraq is very alarming, adding that Ankara is pursuing the policy of holding consultations with Tehran on regional issues.
