|U.S. wants sharp reduction in Iran’s enrichment capacity: official||
TEHRAN - A senior U.S. official said on Thursday that Iran must drastically reduce its capacity to enrich uranium if it wants to reach a nuclear deal with the six world powers that would lead to a gradual lifting of the sanctions on Tehran, according to Reuters.
The official added that an acceptable deal is a deal that requires Tehran to maintain a “fraction” of centrifuges it already operates to process uranium for use as nuclear fuel.
The official, who spoke to reporters on condition of anonymity, rejected Iranian complaints that Washington was setting out “maximalist” positions in the talks, saying, “We are putting down very reasonable positions.”
