|Hijab cannot be enforced forcefully: interior minister||
TEHRAN – Iranian Interior Minister Abdolreza Rahmani Fazli has said that hijab (the Islamic dress code) is not an issue that can be enforced through force or using pressure.
He made the remarks during a meeting on “public security” on Monday.
“There is a problem with our social behavior that shapes public culture,” Fazli noted.
He said the observation of hijab is something which should satisfy God rather than fulfilling “political purposes”.
However he added, “We will deal with those who oppose hijab in an organized way.”
In June, MPs summoned Fazli to Majlis to ask him for an explanation about the observation of hijab in the country and gave him a warning.
