|New judge takes over Mehdi Hashemi case||
TEHRAN – A new judge has been appointed to oversee the case of Mehdi Hashemi, the son of Expediency Council Chairman Ayatollah Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani.
Hashemi has sent an open letter protesting at the change of judge, saying for whatever reason, the change was an unprecedented act and was against the principles of a fair trial.
Hashemi returned to Iran from exile in September 2012 to answer charges of inciting unrest after the 2009 presidential elections. He was arrested after his arrival and was released in December same year on a bail of 100 billion rials ($8,156,606).
