|Leader approves amnesty for eligible prisoners||
TEHRAN – In a decree issued on Sunday, Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei approved Iranian Judiciary Chief Ayatollah Sadeq Larijani’s request that some prisoners be released and the sentences of others be reduced.
The amnesty is being granted ahead of Eid al-Fitr, the Muslim festival held after the end of the holy month of Ramadan.
Ayatollah Larijani appealed to the Supreme Leader to grant amnesty to people convicted in public and revolutionary courts.
However those convicted of armed robbery, arms dealing, drug smuggling, actions against national security, kidnapping, rape, setting up morally corrupt centers, forging bank notes, or attacking people with acid will not be eligible for the Leader’s amnesty.
