|ISIL is best gift to Israel: Jumblatt||
TEHRAN - Walid Jumblatt, the leader of Lebanon’s Druze community, has said the terrorist group the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) is the “greatest gift” to Israel, a Lebanese newspaper reported on Friday.
In an interview with the Beirut-based newspaper As-Safir, Jumblatt, who is also the leader of the Progressive Socialist Party, said if ISIL is not destroyed, its “ideology” will also spread to Lebanon.
He also dismissed speculation that there is a connection between the Gaza war and the ongoing nuclear negotiations between Iran and the United States.
Jumblatt also expressed regret about the position adopted toward “besieged Gaza” by certain Arab countries.
The veteran politician, who is about to make a visit to Egypt, stated, “Egypt can use the issue of Palestine as leverage” against Israel.
The current Egyptian government is in conflict with the Muslim Brotherhood, which has links with the Hamas resistance movement.
Jumblatt said that defending Hamas has priority over conflict with the Muslim Brotherhood, adding, “Hamas, before it is Hamas,” is a Palestinian issue.
