|Mehdi Hashemi stands trial||
TEHRAN – The trial session of Mehdi Hashemi was held behind closed doors in the Tehran Revolutionary Court on Saturday and Sunday, the IRNA news agency reported.
Hashemi, the son of Expediency Council Chairman Ayatollah Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani, is mostly accused of economic corruption and breaching the country’s security.
On July 16, it was reported that a new judge was appointed to oversee Hashemi’s case.
Hashemi returned to Iran from exile in September 2012 to answer charges of inciting unrest after the 2009 presidential elections. He was arrested after his arrival and was released on bail in December same year.
