TEHRAN – Nine Iranian inmates have been released from Qatari prisons thanks to efforts taken by the Iranian Embassy in Doha.
These people, who were convicted to 10 to 20 years in prison, were freed at different stages, the IRNA news agency reported on Tuesday.
“Eleven other Iranian inmates in Qatar will be released in the coming days,” a Foreign Ministry official, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said.
According to the report, 58 Iranian nationals are serving their sentences in Qatari prisons, mostly due to drug smuggling, robbery, and illegal fishing.
