|Rouhani congratulates Erdogan on election victory||
TEHRAN – In a telephone conversation on Monday, Iranian President Hassan Rouhani congratulated Turkish president-elect Recep Tayyip Erdogan on his victory in Turkey’s first presidential election.
Rouhani expressed hope that the relations between Tehran and Ankara would become closer and friendlier and that cooperation between the two countries on regional issues would increase during Erdogan’s term in office as president.
Rouhani underscored the need for increased cooperation between Tehran and Ankara on Iraq, Syria, and Palestine and said, “The campaign against terrorism in the region, especially in Iraq, requires cooperation between the two countries.”
Erdogan, for his part, said that Iran and Turkey have had historical relations, adding that the two countries will have closer relations and increased cooperation on regional issues under his presidency.
