Velayati, who is also the director of the Strategic Research Center of the Expediency Council, made the remarks in his speech to the annual gathering of Iranian ambassadors and envoys in Tehran on Monday.
“Our enemies and friends admit that it is not possible to resolve many complicated international and regional issues without the Islamic Republic of Iran’s involvement and efforts,” Velayati said.
Commenting on the volatile political situation in the region, Velayati said that certain Western countries led by the United States have decided to change equations in the region in order to undermine unity among Muslim countries.
He went on to say that it is hard to predict future developments in the region, adding that Muslims around the world have pinned their hopes on the Islamic Republic, which is undoubtedly the most powerful country in the Muslim world and enjoys high national cohesion.
It is not certain that the equations will take the direction which is desired by certain world powers, said Velayati who served as foreign minister from 1991 to 1997.
Various alliances are taking shape that could foil the evil plots of the United States and its allies, he added.
